Capitol Raceway now running
their 5th OPS race of the season, seen yet again another light car count with
6 cars showing to make the field. But this did not mean, the fans did not get
to see another great show. The drivers came out and gave it their all, trying to
see who was going to be the #1 racer of the night. So with round one set in stone it was time for OPS to come out of the lanes with the 1st pair of cars. Dave Tolley out of Monrovia, MD with his 98 Ford Mustang lined up with Bo Wells out of Forestville, MD with his 89 Chevy Camaro. Both drivers pulled to the line and lit the bulbs and dropped the hammer, Dave leaving 1st with a .463 over Bo's sleepy .590 gave Dave the jump he needed to stay out in the front crossing the 1/8 mile with an ET of 5.031at 141.89 MPH and fighting it the whole way down but held on for the win. Bo crossed with an ET of 5.955 at 97.82 MPH. The 2nd Pair of the night brought out Henry Nooft out of Baltimore, MD with his wild blown 72 Chevy Vega. Henry lined up with JJ (The Kid) Rodgers out of Severn, MD with his 63 Ford Falcon. JJ Showing the reflexes of a young man cut the tree down with .406 light with Henrys .524 but as luck would have it JJ's trans let go and Henry takes the with an ET of 5.526 at 131.83 MPH over JJ's 5.948 at 85.46 MPH. I talked with JJ and he said they would be back for the next race in 2 weeks. the next 2 racer ran single passes with Keith Sexton out of Ijamsville, MD with his 69 Chevy Camaro making the 1st pass. Keith left with a .528 light and had a track blistering run with an ET of 4.755 at 152.68 MPH and this pass held as the fastest pass of the night. Next out was Terris Hicks out of Finksburg, MD with the Hurricane his 02 Ford Mustang. Terris having trouble getting the boost to build on take off later said the it was coming from the Trans but when he got off the line the car would fly. Terris ran an ET of 9.930 at 143.03 MPH. Round 1 showed some great racing and round 2 would look even better. Round 2 was getting ready and the conditions were getting better. The sun had the track warm and sticking and the night air was cooling down as the 1st pair of cars pulled on the track. Dave Tolley paired with Terris Hicks with Dave getting off the line 1st with an .542 and Terris with an .752 Dave never looked back as he held on for the win with an ET of 5.066 at 139.88 MPH Over Terris's 8.035 at 119.79 MPH. The next pair out was Henry Nooft and Keith Sexton. Both Drivers hung out at the tree, But Henry was ready to go after a short rest of .635 But Keith broke the tail shaft on the line giving Henry the win with an ET of 5.993 at 102.28 MPH, and they say you can't teach an old dog a new trick. Great job Henry with getting in to the final round. The smoke was flying as Henry Nooft and Dave Tolley warmed up their tires. Both Drivers getting in to the zone as they pulled to the line. Ford vs Chevy, Blower vs Super Charger. The lights came on and Dave gets away 1st with an .478 with Henry right behind him with an .526 but the jump on the tree was all Dave Tolley needed to take home the win at Capitol Raceways 5th OPS Shoot out, Crossing the line with an ET of 5.087 at 140.94 MPH with Henry right behind him with an ET of 5.415 at 135.85 MPH. |
